STREAM Program

Administration

What is the STREAM program?

At SS. Philip and James School, we continually strive to expose our students to STEM programs at the Elementary School level to better prepare them for the future. In addition, we facilitate the design and delivery of a comprehensive STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, Math) program, which not only emphasizes a robust STEM program but ensures the intentional integration of religion and the arts.

Science

In addition to having science lessons in the classroom, SS. Philip and James School has a state of the art science lab. It is available for all grades and is used more often as the students advance through the grades. The middle school students know how to set up labs by themselves, so that when they get to high school they will be prepared.

Technology

Students in grades Pre-K through 8 have technology once a week with lessons that relate to their core-curriculum classes. Students in the primary grades learn keyboarding and mouse skills. As they progress through the years, students learn how to conduct appropriate research through the internet and become proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Religion

Growth in our Catholic Faith is two pronged: learning about the Faith and practicing that which we believe. In addition to Religion class, there are a variety of ways in which the students have the opportunity to “live” their beliefs: Attending weekly mass, participating in works of mercy, learning about and celebrating virtue of the month and more.

Engineering

SS. Philip and James provides relevant, experiential, hands-on learning experiences through field trips and Project Based Learning opportunities

Art

SS. Philip and James offers an abundant arts and fine arts program. Students have the opportunity to explore their inner creativity through the outlets of Art, Theatre, Choir, Band and Piano.

Math

The Sadlier math program is used in grades K – 6.  An accelerated mathematics program is offered to those, beginning in Grade 5, who meet the criteria established by the Archdiocese for Math Honors.
