SS. Philip and James School (SSPJ) offers an exceptional Catholic education for preschool students (ages 3 and 4) up to eighth grade, skillfully blending contemporary teaching methods and technology with enduring Catholic values in a nurturing and supportive environment. Since its establishment in 1960, SSPJ has a proud history of delivering rigorous academics that are enriched by cutting-edge technology, an engaging fine arts program, Spanish instruction, Honors Math, a spacious gymnasium, a STREAM lab, and a modern science lab.


SSPJ is dedicated to the spiritual development of children from Pre-K 3 to eighth grade, utilizing the Archdiocese of Philadelphia curriculum, the expertise of passionate and skilled educators, and the active participation of parents.


SSPJ holds full accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools. It first earned this significant distinction in 1982 and maintains accreditation through 2030. The school was honored as a National Blue Ribbon School in both the 1989-90 and 2023 academic years.


The school community serves the townships of West Pikeland, Charlestown, East Whiteland, West Whiteland, and Uwchlan. The parish boundaries encompass the following zip codes: 19335 Downingtown, 19341 Exton, 19345 Immaculata, 19355 Malvern/Frazer, 19380 West Chester, and 19425 Chester Springs. Additionally, the school and parish regions extend into the school districts of West Chester, Downingtown, and Great Valley. Our Pre-K 3 program is also accessible to families from Saint Elizabeth’s parish in Chester Springs, PA.


As a small Catholic institution, SSPJ fosters a close-knit community centered around Faith, Knowledge, Worship, and Service. Every child receives personalized attention in a nurturing, constructive, and secure environment, ensuring they graduate ready to thrive in high school.


School hours span from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Students may arrive as early as 7:45 a.m. and gather in the gym for morning announcements and prayer. Those arriving after the 8:00 a.m. bell must report to the office for a late slip.


Busing is available for students in kindergarten through grade 8, provided by the public school district in which the student resides.
