About Us

SS. Philip and James School (SSPJ) provides a quality Catholic education for students in preschool (3- and 4-year-olds) through grade 8 combining the best of current teaching strategies and technology with traditional Catholic values in a warm and caring atmosphere. SSPJ has been educating students since 1960 and have a history of challenging academics enhanced by the latest technology, a fine arts program, Spanish, Honors Math, a spacious gym, a STREAM lab, and a state-of-the-art science lab. 

 

SSPJ is committed to the faith formation of children from Pre-K 3 through grade 8, using the Archdiocese of Philadelphia curriculum, the expertise of skilled and dedicated teachers, and the active involvement of parents.

SSPJ is fully accredited by the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools. The school first received accreditation in 1982 and has been accredited by the Commission through 2030. The school was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School in 1989-90 and 2023.


The school community encompasses parts of the townships of West Pikeland, Charlestown, East Whiteland, West Whiteland, and Uwchlan. The following zip codes are included in the parish boundaries: 19335 Downingtown, 19341 Exton, 19345 Immaculata, 19355 Malvern/Frazer, 19380 West Chester, and 19425 Chester Springs. The school and parish boundaries extend into the school districts of West Chester, Downingtown, and Great Valley. Our Pre-K 3 program is also available to families from Saint Elizabeth’s parish in Chester Springs, PA.

As a small Catholic school, SSPJ has the feel of a close-knit community focused on Faith, Knowledge, Worship, and Service. All children are offered individual attention in a constructive, nurturing, and safe environment and graduate from the school well prepared to succeed in high school.
 
School hours are 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Children may arrive as early as 7:45 a.m. and are admitted to the gym where the school community gathers for morning announcements and prayer. Children who arrive after the 8:00 a.m. bell rings will report to the office for a late slip.
 
Busing is provided for kindergarten through grade 8 by the public school district in which the student resides.
